Windows 7 Gadgets Manipulations And Where to Download More Gadgets?


Windows 7 gadgets allow you to quickly access various handy features from your computer desktop such as Internet radio, slide show, traffic maps, feed online data direct to your desktop, and more.

The gadget features being introduced in Windows Vista are displayed in the Windows Sidebar. However, the Windows Sidebar is eliminated in Windows 7. You can now display the gadgets directly on the desktop rather than be constrained to the Sidebar.

The Windows 7 comes with a set of gadgets to get you started. You can easily download more gadgets from an online gadget gallery.

Unlike Windows Vista, Windows 7 do not display any gadget by default. However, you can display, add, move or close the gadgets. Normally, the gadgets will display at the right-hand side of the window.


To display the Windows 7 gadgets

  • Right-click a blank area of the desktop, click Gadgets from the menu.

To add a gadget

  • Right-click a blank area of the desktop, click Gadgets.
  • From the Gadgets window, double-click the gadget you want to appear on the desktop (i.e. Windows Media Center).
  • Click the Close button to close the Gadgets window.


To change gadget options

  • Point to the gadget you want to change, click the Options button (wrench icon), select the options you want, and then click OK.


To move a gadget

  • Point to the gadget, and then drag the Drag gadget (dot grid) to another location on the desktop.

To close a gadget

  • Point to the gadget you want to close, click the Close button, and then click Close Gadget (if requested) OR
  • Right-click on the gadget, click Close gadget from the menu.

To search and download more gadgets online

  • Right-click a blank area of the desktop, click Gadgets.
  • From the Gadgets window, click Get more gadgets online to open the Microsoft web site and download more gadgets.
